Do you feel like trying out some air under your board or balancing on rails? However, you still feel a bit insecure about how you should act? With professional instructors you'll learn easily the basic skills for jumps, rails and halfpipe.
Freestyle lesson is well suited for kids, juniors and adults, who already know how to ride middle range (red) slopes in a controllable manner. Private lessons are always customized according to the needs of the customer. We recommend to book 1 h 45 min long lesson(s) for learning and training freestyle tricks.
Ruka's ski school offers high quality instructing for skiers and snowboarders of all ages and skill levels. Whether you are a beginner getting to know a new sport or a skilled enthusiast our devoted and qualified instructors will take you to the next level safely, making sure that above all you have fun during your class.
Freestyle skill levels
GREEN level (1): You have already good basic slope skiing/boarding skills. At your first freestyle lesson you will learn safety issues and Park-rules. During the lesson you will practice easiest straight basic jumps and railing at press-obstacle.
BLUE level (2): You master basics of the freestyle skills from green level. During this level lessons you will learn to rail at press and tube-rails. You will also learn basic grabs while jumping straight. We can also practice 180- from small size jump.
RED level (3): You master basics of the freestyle skills from blue level. During these level lessons you will learn and practice more demanding tricks while railing (side-way, backward in - straight out etc.). We can also practice more demanding jumping tricks and grabs, from both smaller and mid-size jumps.
BLACK level (4):You master basics of the freestyle skills from red level. During these level lessons you will learn and practice more demanding tricks in bigger jumps and more demanding rails. You will learn to combine slope style tricks.
Filming video at private lessons
By choosing a private lesson with the duration of 1h 45min, you can request that your skiing is filmed. Video offers you a detailed description of your strengths and shows points of improvement. Video analysis and training done accordingly suit well for alpine skiing, snowboarding, telemark skiing as well as cross-country skate style skiing. When making your private lesson reservation, please tell us your request for this service.
Book private lessons
You can book private lessons for yourself, your child, your family or for a group of friends. We recommend booking the lesson well in advance, by 15.00 the previous day the latest. When booking the lesson you'll receive further details on how to prepare for the lesson and where the meeting place is situated. Private lessons are paid at the ski school's office.

Every student needs either Rosa & Rudolf Family Park area ticket or normal lift ticket, upon his/her skill level. If child is under 6 yrs old and parent has normal ski-lift ticket, the child will get free-of-charge lift ticket for the same period as parent's ticket is valid. Normal ski-lift ticket includes also access to the Rosa & Rudolf Family Park.
Buy the ski pass easily in advance from the online store. You are entitled to a 5% discount for the ski passes purchased online the previous day before midnight (24.00) at the latest.
If you don't have your own equipment, you can rent them in advance online and collect them ready packed from the online rental shop's service desk at VuosselinPortti or PisteVuokraamo. You can pick up the equipment already the previous day by 18.00, once you've received a text message from the rental shop. VuosselinPortti rental shop is situated close by the ski school's group course meeting place. Private lessons start either near PisteVuokraamo (at Ruka Village), VuosselinPortti or Rosa & Rudolf Family Park (at Ruka Valley, East Ruka).
We advice you to arrive to the rental shop at least 30min before the lesson starts. During high season we recommend you to come to the rental shop at least 45min before the lesson starts. If you don't want to rent the equipment online, you can speed up running your errands by filling in the eRentalForm.
Once you've sent out the information you don't have to fill in the paper form at the Rental Shops. When you arrive to the Rental Shop you can proceed by following the signs and at the rental desk your information is found from our system with your name.
Ski School meeting points
1. RUKA VALLEY / Rosa & Rudolf Family Park (at East Ruka): ski school meeting sign @ BISTRO is in front of the Ski Bistro restaurant terrace and nearby the entrance gate to Family Park and bottom station of the Gondola lift.
2. VUOSSELINPORTTI meeting sign is at slope side of the VuosselinPortti rental house (at East Ruka). If you are complete beginner, we can also make first exercises there (on flat area), before moving to Rosa & Rudolf Family Park (about 5 min walk).
3. RUKA VILLAGE: Ski school meeting sign @ PISTE is beside of the Piste Rental house front door, next to Gondola Bottom station. If you are complete beginner; you could also start the lesson from this meeting point and go together with your instructor to Gondola lift and to Rosa & Rudolf Family Park to learn to ski/snowboard.
